Davis Fund Provides Opportunities For VSB Students

By Guest Writer Dayana Torres (First-Year Student At Villanova School of Business)

There are many captivating experiences given to the students at The Villanova School of Business. However, there might be funding issues and because of this there is the VSB Davis Fund for Student Experiences.

On December 9th, 2022, I attended the VSB Davis Fund for Student Experiences Information Session. Here, a lot a valuable information was given in terms of what and who is eligible and the overall process. To start, this fund is generously provided by Mr. Jim C Davis and Mrs. Kim Davis. They provide grants to those students whose applications demonstrate experiences and opportunities to expand their education outside of the classroom.

Eligible Funding Opportunities:

  • Conferences
  • Research
  • Independent Study
  • Case Competitions
  • Nonprofit Service
  • Global Opportunities

These are only some of the opportunities, but there are so many more that are eligible. Isn’t this such a great opportunity for business students? I believe everyone should take advantage of this opportunity to further enhance their time during VSB.

To be able to receive a fund, there is an application process. This is so the Review Committee knows your intentions with what you would do if you received the fund. A professional resume, 250-word essay explaining how this grant will help you pursue your goals while aligning with the values of the Villanova School of Business, and an optional essay to share additional information are all part of the application process.

Reminders:

  • Applications should be submitted three weeks prior to when funding is needed
  • Read the Davis Fund for Student Experiences Handbook before submitting

Additionally, there are a couple of exceptions when it comes to study abroad. The presenter shed light on how some education abroad application might not be accepted. This is so important for the students of VSB to keep in mind. More information can be found in the Student Handbook linked below.

Important Study Abroad Info:

  • Fall semester – due by June 15
  • Spring semester – due by October 15
  • Summer & Maymester – due by March 15
  • Must have demonstrated financial need confirmed by Office for Financial Assistance
  • Only full-time VSB students are eligible

Internships are also included! Similar to the Study Abroad regulations, there is some important information that one should know if applying for a fund for an internship.

Internships (paid & unpaid):

  • Must submit completed application by May 1
  • Must have demonstrated financial need confirmed by Office for Financial Assistance
  • PAID: Must submit offer letter
  • UNPAID: Employer must confirm USDOL criteria
  • Only full-time VSB students are eligible

The Davis Fund is a great opportunity to learn more outside of the School of Business. It is so kind of Mr. and Mrs. Davis to provide this opportunity to students. After receiving the fund, students will write a thank you note to show their gratitude towards their generosity which is incredible after all they’ve done.
